About the Equine Rescue Center (ERC)
Monica Hardeman, President, Founder & Equine Manager with Gabe Pimentel. Monica and Gabe have dedicated over a decade to rescuing equines. Both retrain, manage and care for the equines.
Equine Rescue Center (ERC) was founded in early 2009 by Monica Hardeman. Monica had an early start with horses. At four years old she would ride the ponies her rodeo, cowboy grandfather from Hollister got her and her cousins. She continued her love of horses and worked on a ranch in her teen years, her dream was to care for horses others did not give a chance. When Monica's sister was murdered in 1995 she found horses helped her cope with the pain of the sudden loss of her sister. Knowing how helpful horses were to her she wanted to share this with other's in need of help and healing. The goal is to rescue horses headed to slaughter; give them a second chance, let them heal in a healthy environment and have them bond to humans. Horses and humans benefit greatly from the Equine Rescue Center & Sanctuary.
ERC is a nonprofit animal welfare charitable organization operating solely by directors, interns and volunteers. ERC directors, interns and volunteers receive no compensation. All donations go directly to the equines feed, board, medical and hoof trimming.
Equine Care
Our horses, ponies, steer, cows and bulls spend their days grazing pasture, socializing and taking long naps. We design a dietary plan including supplements, vitamins and minerals to meet their individual nutritional needs. Our older equines, with arthritis and injuries, are supplemented with joint relieving medication and homeopathic remedies to ensure quality of life. In the winter months our equines are blanketed, fed hay, grain and their required supplements.
Our equines health is of the utmost importance. We have two month parasite and worm control program. We rotate to ensure our equines do not develop resistance. For the equines that do not take paste wormer orally- we add pellets to their feed or mask paste wormer in with all in one & grain.
